Dictionary Term

Source Data

Source data is data that has yet to be processed. Source data can come from sheets of paper containing data, data originating from other electronic sources, and raw data produced in the course of a transaction, to name a few. Before it can be put to use, source data must often be processed, which, depending on the organization doing the processing, can mean anything from verification procedures to analysis.
