Dictionary Term



In information technology, obsolescence describes devices and programming that have become outdated. With the rate that technology advances, obsolescence is becoming more of an everyday problem. Over increasingly short periods of time, hardware or software grow old and incompatible with up-to-date technology and/or unable to handle the most current processing demands.

In data management, obsolescence can refer to outdated technology as well as data that is no longer accurate because of its age.
