Dictionary Term

Location Transparency

Location transparency refers to the way in which file names are used to represent physical sites in computing, often taking the appellation of a resource itself rather than the resource’s location. Location transparency is vital in computing because it allows users to access data –whether located remotely or on the user’s computer—without having to know where the file resides.
