Data Integrity

Data integrity is a phrase used to describe the dependability and correctness of data, and is vital to organizations and systems that rely upon data to operate.

Data can become corrupted in any number of ways, through human or computer error, intentionally or unintentionally, but regardless, the results can be disastrous. Data integrity can be maintained by exercising precautions as simple as double-checking entries (to prevent human error) and frequently backing up data. Information security programs can also block data access to unknown users and monitor and correct consistency errors when transmitting data.
