Storm is a distributed computation system that functions in real time, processing massive amounts of data in streams. An open source system, Storm can be applied in a number of ways, from data analysis to extract transform load tasks and creating machine learning. Storm is often compared to Hadoop, which performs similar functions using batch processing. Storm is owned by Twitter.
