Big Data Landscape CategoryObject Databases
Sterling is an open source, object-oriented database that can be used with select Windows operating systems, software frameworks and application frameworks, namley: .Net, Windows Phone and Silverlight. Sterling is sufficiently robust for desktop work and the typical tasks of an object-oriented database, but lightweight enough to be used on mobile devices. Sterling is designed to handle a variety of functions, including: properties, fields, circular references and cycle detection.
Compared with many competing in-memory, NoSQL databases, Sterling is particularly lightweight, non-intrusive and flexible, which accounts for its facility as a mobile database.
