Vendor Lock-In

AKA:

Vendor lock-in describes a situation in which a customer becomes reliant upon a vendor for a specialized service, and therefore cannot leave for a competitor.

Because many businesses today are dependent upon technology, a common source of vendor lock-in is platform dependent hardware and software.
