Dictionary Term

Relational Database Management System

AKA:

A relational database management system (RDBMS) is a DBMS designed to build, query and otherwise run databases in which information is organized into relational tables. Relational tables are divided into rows and columns, allowing the user to isolate specific data sets by placing all like items in the same column.

Over the years, a variety of management systems have emerged for databases, but most enterprises continue to use a RDBMS because of its simplicity, and because of how intuitively it represents relationships between data.
