Dictionary Term

Primary Storage

AKA:

In computing, primary storage is the internal memory that is immediately accessible, typically via random access memory (RAM). Today, primary storage is usually referred to as “RAM” or simply, “memory.” Primary storage is most often volatile, which means that its contents disappear in the absence of a power source.

The phrase can also be used more generally to refer to storage with data currently in use, rather than archived.
