Initial Program Load

AKA:

Initial program load (IPL) is the act of initiating a computer’s operating system and instructing the computer to begin performing commands. In the vast majority of today’s computers, such as factory built Macs and PCs, the instructions for IPL are pre-programmed and activate autonomously when the computer is turned on.
