Dictionary Term

Functional Data Warehouse

AKA:

A functional data warehouse is the data storage and processing device for a unit in an organization such as a division or a local office in a large business. Several functional data warehouses can contain much of the same data and will share common programming and processes, and help to spread the processing load for massive amounts of data. This class of data warehouse also helps secure data—in the event that a functional data warehouse crashes, the other warehouses in its network can bear the load and keep services up while the damaged warehouse is repaired.
