Dictionary Term

Database Partitioning

AKA:

Database partitioning is a practice in which a database is apportioned into separate parts, rather than remaining as a more massive, diverse whole. Database partitioning makes databases much more manageable, and improves overall performance. With a partitioned database, data can be searched within a local partition without querying the entire database. Likewise, alterations can be made to a local area without affecting data in other partitions.
