A data warehouse appliance is a plug-and-play data warehousing solution that supplies the user with all the hardware and software needed to immediately establish a data warehouse for processing and analyzing massive amounts of information.

Data warehouse appliances come in a variety of forms, but most share some qualities in common:

Integrated hardware and software elements: Data warehouse appliances come with integrated servers, processors, storage, and pre-installed operating system.

Scalable components: Many current data warehouse appliances are built to scale up by simply purchasing and installing new components as more space is needed, saving the administrator the hassle of having to transfer all data to a new appliance.
