Dictionary Term

Data Visualization

AKA:

Data visualization refers to a process or technology in which data is converted into a representative image for human viewing, in the form of visuals like charts, graphs, and lists. Data visualizations help users to access and understand data quickly.

Increasingly, the growing complexity of enterprise demands more than simple charts and graphs. Today, common data visualizations include the following:
Dials
Gauges
Geographic maps
Time series charts
Spark lines
Heat maps
Tree maps
Fever charts

Not only does data visualization software help users make meaning of dense, difficult data, it also exposes important data that might otherwise go unnoticed.
