Communications Protocol

AKA:

Communications protocol describes the rules for formatting data that is sent between computing devices. Whenever information is transferred between two or more devices, there must be an agreement as to the arrangement and syntax of data before it can be sent successfully. There are hundreds of communication protocols, any number of which are programmed into the software and/or hardware of most devices used for computing and telecommunication today.
